Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald

The Bavarian Forest National Park is the first and largest in Germany, and the only one with real primeval forests.

The idea of a national park originated in North America, where Yellowstone National Park was founded in 1872. Almost a hundred years later, the Bavarian Forest National Park was opened in 1970 as the first national park in Germany.

The world’s longest treetop walk

The longest treetop walk in the world was opened in the Bavarian Forest National Park on 8 September 2009. Walk up to 25 metres above the forest floor in unspoilt nature and experience unique perspectives – the new treetop walk in the Bavarian Forest National Park makes this possible.
